About this model
A large stone grinding wheel mounted on a sturdy wooden bench frame with a treadle beneath. The wood is dark and worn and the wheel pale grey. It is about 5 ft long, 2 ft deep and 3 ft tall, one square in length and waist high.
Place it in a smithy, a mill, a barracks yard or an armourer's workshop. It gives a crafting space a working feel, and it offers modest cover in a fight. It is also a good reason to sharpen a blade before a duel or to describe sparks flying in a dark room.
Ideas for the table
- A smith's apprentice sharpens weapons at a grindstone, unaware that the swords are being sold to bandits.
- A sparking grindstone in a dark smithy is the only light when goblins break in.
- The party bargains for a blade to be sharpened before the town champion's duel at noon.
