About this model
A low spill of gold coins scattered around a small wooden chest, with a crown, goblets and a red cloth among the hoard. The coins spread out across the floor like they were dropped in a hurry. It covers about 6.5 by 7 ft, a bit over one square, and stands only 2.5 ft high.
Use it as the reward at the end of a dungeon, a dragon's sleeping place or a bandit leader's private store. It is low enough to see over but uneven underfoot, so call it difficult ground if someone fights while standing in it. It also tempts players into poor decisions, which is half the point.
Ideas for the table
- The hoard is real, but every coin bears the face of a king who will want them back.
- A goblin boss sleeps on a pile of stolen loot, and each coin the party pockets risks a clink loud enough to wake him.
- The treasure heap sits on a pressure plate, and lifting the crown starts the room flooding.
