Ambush on the Forest Road
A dirt road through pines and boulders: the classic roadside ambush.

The place
Setting: Daylight under the trees
A rutted road winding between fir and pine, boulders and fallen logs on either side, and a cart stopped in the middle of it. Nowhere to run except into the trees, and the trees are where the ambushers are. Cover is real: the boulders block lines, the tree trunks split the party, and the road is the only clear ground.
What the recipe places
- 2 floor and road ops
- 21 props, lines and scatters
- 2 lights and effects
- 9 miniatures

Encounters it was built for
- Bandits from both sides of the road; the cart is cover and the loot.
- A wolf pack circling in from the trees while the party protects a caravan.
- Travelling encounter: use the road as a strip map and move the cart each scene.
Tips
- The scatter and line ops in a scene recipe placed these trees; it is easy to grow the forest.
- Trees are cutout foliage with real shadows and cost almost nothing to draw.
- Switch the sun preset to dusk for a very different mood with no other changes.
