About this model
A scattered set of small wooden barrels, loose staves, hoops and broken boards, as if a cooper's yard or a wrecked cart has spilled across the ground. The pieces spread over about 14.5 ft by 11 ft and stand up to 3 ft tall, covering roughly three squares by two.
Lay it out in a dockyard, a cooperage, the scene of a robbery or a warehouse after a fight. It turns open ground into a mess of debris the DM can call difficult terrain, with the intact barrels offering low cover. It reads as aftermath, so it invites questions about what happened.
Ideas for the table
- The party arrives to find a merchant's barrels smashed open, and a trail of spilled wine leads into the woods.
- A collapsed stack of barrels at the docks has pinned a dockworker, and the tide is coming in.
- Thugs hiding among broken barrels in a cooper's yard wait for the party to step into the debris.
