About this model
A long wooden ship with a curved hull, a single mast and a large square cloth sail. The planking is dark and the sail pale. It is about 12.5 ft wide, 30 ft long and 18 ft tall to the masthead, six squares long.
Use it at beaches, river landings, fjords and harbours, or as the setting for a sea fight or raid. The hull gives cover and the mast can be climbed. A longboat drawn up on a beach makes a strong image for a raider landing, while one on the water sets up boarding actions.
Ideas for the table
- Raiders leap from a longboat onto a fishing village's beach at dawn.
- A longboat drifts into harbour with no crew aboard and a chest lashed to the mast.
- The party must sail a stolen longboat out of a fjord before the jarl's fleet blocks the mouth.
