About this model
A flat, slab-like stone with a brown and grey layered surface, broken at the edges. It looks like a piece of sedimentary rock or slate. The slab is about half a foot across and very low.
Scatter it across riverbanks, cliff bases, quarries and rocky hillsides. Flat stones like this can be stepping stones over a stream or loose rubble at the foot of a crumbling wall. They add natural variety among rounder rocks and grass. Lay a line of them across a ford and the players can see the crossing at a glance. They also suit the base of a slate quarry or the ruins of a stone hut, where the roof has come down in pieces.
Ideas for the table
- Stepping across flat stones in the stream, the party discovers one rocks loose and hides a pouch underneath.
- A rune scratched into a slab marks the boundary of a fey realm.
- A kobold trap uses loose slabs like this to trigger a rockslide.
