About this model
A blocky, square-edged rock with sharply fractured faces in rust, ochre and grey. It looks freshly split from a cliff. The piece is about 4.5 ft long, 2.5 ft deep and 2 ft high, taking up roughly a square of ground and reaching a person's knee or waist.
Use it at the foot of cliffs, in quarries, in rockfall corridors in a dungeon and along mountain trails. It provides half cover for a crouching figure and is low enough to step up onto. A cluster of these suggests recent collapse, which can set the tone before a cave-in or an earth elemental fight.
Ideas for the table
- A rockfall has dropped this freshly split stone onto a mine cart track, trapping miners behind it.
- Quarry workers have stopped cutting because the last block they split revealed a carved face staring out.
- A lone dwarf uses the boulder as a table to gamble with passing travellers on a mountain pass.
