About this model
Two flat, low stones lying together, buff coloured and lightly pitted. The pair spans about a foot by 2 ft and rises only half a foot above the ground, more a stepping stone than an obstacle.
These are useful wherever a scene needs fine detail: garden paths, stream crossings, the floor of a cave or the courtyard of a ruined temple. They have no combat role, but they help a map feel handmade. A line of them across a shallow stream suggests a crossing point that characters will naturally want to use, which a DM can turn into a tense moment.
Ideas for the table
- A line of flat stones across a shallow stream offers the only dry crossing, and a water weird waits beside the third.
- The monks' garden path is made of these stones, and walking it out of order triggers a warning bell.
- A smuggler marks the hidden cellar door by setting two flat stones on top of the trapdoor.
