About this model
A broad, crumbling boulder with a craggy top and layered brown faces, the kind of outcrop that seems to grow out of a hillside. It is about 8 ft wide, 10 ft deep and 5 ft tall, which is close to a two by two square footprint and about chest to head height on a human.
It works as a natural mound in forests, moors and highland scenes. Characters can climb its stepped surfaces to take the high ground, or hide behind its bulk out of sight. In a big battle it divides the field into two lanes and forces enemies to go around, which is useful when you want to shape the movement of a fight.
Ideas for the table
- Goblin scouts keep watch from the top of a craggy outcrop that overlooks the only ford on the river.
- A wounded knight shelters behind the rock while wolves circle, waiting for help to arrive.
- Shepherds say a troll sleeps under the outcrop, and a deep cleft at its base proves them right.
