About this model
A narrow, twisted shard of tree bark around 2 ft long, its outer surface silvery and furrowed and its underside stained a warm orange. One end is snapped clean, the other frays into fibres. It sits flat on the terrain, half a foot high at most.
This is ground clutter for forests, riverbanks and wood yards. Drop several around the base of a dead tree to show it is shedding, or around a woodcutter's stump. It gives no cover and does not slow anyone down, but it rewards close looking: an observant player might spot claw marks or a carved symbol on a piece the DM has placed deliberately.
Ideas for the table
- A message scratched into the inside of a bark strip tells the party where the missing scout hid the stolen map.
- Shed bark piled around a blighted oak marks the edge of a corrupted grove where plants attack trespassers.
- Kobolds collect bark for kindling, and a trail of dropped pieces leads straight to their warren.
