About this model
A traditional oak barrel with curved staves and dark iron hoops, its wood stained a deep reddish brown. It is about 2.5 ft across and 3 ft tall, filling half of a square. The hoops show a little rust where the staves meet.
Stand a few in a tavern cellar, a winery, a ship's hold or a merchant warehouse. Barrels are classic battle-map furniture: half cover, something to climb onto, or a hiding spot for a halfling. A barrel can be broached and rolled downhill, or set on its side to block a narrow passage.
Ideas for the table
- One barrel in the cellar sounds hollow when knocked, and it opens onto a tunnel to the smugglers' den.
- Pirates roll barrels down the gangplank at the party during a dockside fight.
- A halfling stowaway is hiding inside a barrel the party has just bought for their wagon.
