Forest Floor, a floor tiles and ground surfaces 3D model for D&D battle maps

About this model

A dark woodland ground of soil, twigs, needles and scattered leaves in browns and greys. It has the slightly damp, cluttered look of a floor under a closed canopy where little grass grows. One tile fills a single 5 ft square and sits flat on the terrain.

Use it beneath stands of trees, around hunters' camps, at the mouths of caves and along game trails. On a big outdoor map it breaks up open grass and tells players they have entered thicker country, which is a good cue to describe snapping twigs, poor sight lines and roots underfoot. Many tables treat a patch of it under brush as difficult terrain.

Ideas for the table

  • Wolves circle a camp in a clearing of forest floor, and every crack of a twig is a clue to where the next one will come from.
  • A druid's hidden grove is ringed by forest floor that hides a scatter of snare traps.
  • The party tracks an owlbear through dense woodland and must read its trail from disturbed ground before nightfall.
