About this model
A loose, low shrub of thin woody stems carrying small grey-green leaves, the sort of scrubby growth that springs up on dry hillsides and field margins. It spreads about 2 ft wide but stays barely knee height, so it covers less than half a square and never blocks a line of sight.
Scatter several along a road verge, a ruined courtyard or the edge of a heath to break up bare ground. They suit wilderness travel scenes and abandoned places more than tidy gardens. At the table they work as light clutter: somewhere a halfling or a snake might lie low, or a patch the DM calls awkward footing when a chase cuts through.
Ideas for the table
- A rattlesnake nest hides under a ring of these shrubs beside the trail, and the first character to step off the path finds it.
- A courier dropped a sealed letter while fleeing, and it now lies caught in the stems of a shrub by the roadside.
- Goblin scouts have tied bells to the scrub around their camp so anyone pushing through gives themselves away.
