About this model
A wider mat of dark tangled roots and soil, flatter and broader than its sibling, the sort of growth that spreads where a big tree meets the ground. It measures about 5.5 ft by 3.5 ft and is only half a foot tall, just over a square.
Use it to dress the base of trees, ruined walls that the forest has taken back, or a swampy track. It reads well in dark woods and fey glades. At the table it is uneven ground that slows a sprint and gives a crawling creature somewhere to hide.
Ideas for the table
- Roots in a cursed grove twitch whenever someone speaks the name of the dead lord buried under them.
- A snare wire is strung between two roots on the game trail, set by poachers who are watching from cover.
- A wounded owlbear has dragged itself into a hollow beneath the roots and will defend it to the end.
