About this model
A big mound of earth and gnarled roots in warm brown tones, rising like a small hill where an enormous tree has lifted the ground. It is about 13.5 ft by 9 ft and 5 ft high, covering roughly three squares by two.
Make it a landmark in an old forest, the edge of a fey crossing or a ridge above a stream. It is large enough to shape a fight: characters can climb it for height, crouch behind it for full cover, or hold the top against attackers below. Treat the slopes as difficult terrain and the mound as a vantage point.
Ideas for the table
- Archers on top of the root mound pin the party down until someone flanks round the back.
- A cave mouth opens in the side of the mound, leading down into the burrow of a giant badger.
- Fey hold court on the mound at dusk, and the party must win an invitation to approach.
