About this model
A wall-mounted lamp with a dark iron backplate, a curled arm and a black bell-shaped shade hanging below. It is small, about half a foot wide, 1 ft deep and 1 ft tall, and mounts on a wall rather than standing on the floor.
Fix a row along a corridor in a manor, an inn, a dungeon passage or a steampunk interior. Each sconce can carry a light that casts real shadows, so the DM can leave gaps of darkness between them. Players can douse one to create a hiding spot, or a monster can do it for them.
Ideas for the table
- Sconces along the hallway go out one at a time as something approaches from the far end.
- A loose sconce twists like a lever, opening a hidden door in the library wall.
- Guards patrol a passage lit by sconces, and the rogue must pick the dark gaps to slip between them.
