About this model
A boxy wooden lantern with dark glass panes, a metal cap and a wire handle on top, built to be carried or hung. It is about 1 ft square and 2 ft tall, a small prop for a hook, table or the ground.
Hang it in a stable, a dock, a mine tunnel, a camp or a ship's hold. With a light attached it casts real shadows across the map, which makes it ideal for night scenes. Smashing a lantern can start a fire, and leaving it behind marks the way back.
Ideas for the table
- A lantern left burning outside a mine entrance means someone is still trapped inside.
- Smugglers signal a ship offshore by covering and uncovering a lantern on the cliff.
- A will-o'-wisp mimics the light of a lantern to lure travellers into the bog.
