About this model
A larger fern with long arching fronds spreading in all directions from a dense green centre. It is lush and full. The plant measures about 3.5 ft by 3 ft and stands around 1.5 ft tall, nearly filling a single square.
Use it to fill gaps in woodland, jungle and garden scenes, especially around roots, rocks and streams. A few large ferns quickly make a map feel overgrown. Small creatures can hide among them, and a DM can treat a dense cluster as light undergrowth that slows careful movement. They look best tucked against tree trunks or the foot of a ruined wall.
Ideas for the table
- A lost child's shoe lies half hidden among the ferns beside the river.
- Goblin scouts crouch behind a bank of ferns, waiting for the party to pass.
- A rare herb grows only under the largest ferns in the grove, and a rival herbalist got there first.
