About this model
A plain iron bedstead with tubular head and foot rails and a sagging wire mesh base, no mattress. The paint has worn and the metal looks cold and institutional, closer to a barracks, asylum or old hospital than a cosy inn. It measures about 3 ft wide and 6.5 ft long, filling a one by two square footprint, with the headboard rising to 4 ft.
It suits modern horror, gothic investigations, prisons and abandoned sanatoriums. In a fight it is light furniture: someone can crouch behind the headboard for a little cover or slide underneath to hide. A row of them in a long ward makes a creepy corridor of obstacles for a chase.
Ideas for the table
- A row of empty iron beds in an abandoned infirmary hides a ghoul lying perfectly still on the wire mesh of the last one.
- Prisoners in a debtors' gaol have unscrewed a bed rail to use as a lever on the cell bars.
- A haunted bed frame rattles and drags itself across the floor whenever someone speaks the dead patient's name.
