About this model
A big stone fireplace block built from dark blue-grey masonry, with a soot-blackened mouth, broken timber and glowing embers inside, and an iron hook for a cooking pot. The slab top is heavy and flat. It measures about 10 ft wide, 6.5 ft deep and 7 ft tall, occupying two squares by more than one.
Set it against a wall in a tavern kitchen, a keep's great hall or a witch's cottage. A lit fire inside works as a light source that throws real shadows across the room. In a fight it is solid full cover, a hazard to shove someone into, and a chimney for small creatures to climb.
Ideas for the table
- Something keeps rattling up the chimney of an inn's great hearth, and the cook refuses to light it until the party looks.
- A witch stirs a bubbling pot over her hearth while the party bargains, and the price rises each time the brew changes colour.
- During a tavern brawl, a thug is shoved toward the open fire and the fight stops while everyone stamps out his cloak.
