About this model
A tall upright wooden frame with a large wheel mechanism, ropes hanging from the sides and dark iron fittings. It looks like a combined stretching rack and winch, grim and functional. The frame is about 12.5 ft wide and 6.5 ft deep, roughly two and a half squares by one, and stands about 12.5 ft high.
It suits an inquisitor's dungeon, a cultist's interrogation chamber or the cellar of a tyrant's castle. In a fight it is full cover and something to climb or cut ropes from. It also raises the stakes of a rescue, because the prisoner strapped to it cannot move until someone frees them.
Ideas for the table
- The party arrives as a captured scout is being winched onto the rack, and the torturer has the key to his chains.
- Cultists use the wheel as a ritual drum, and each turn of it brings their summoning closer.
- A long-dead inquisitor's ghost still turns the empty rack's wheel at midnight, and it creaks whenever someone lies.
