About this model
A short palm with a stout, rough trunk and a crown of spiky fronds. It is about 3 ft across at the base and 5 ft tall, a young palm rather than a towering one.
Use it at oases, desert outposts, tropical beaches and palace courtyards. Its trunk gives a small amount of cover, and clusters of palms give shade and soften a sandy map. It tells players immediately that the scene is hot and dry, and a ring of them can mark where the water is. It also suits a pirate cove on a tropical isle.
Ideas for the table
- A ring of young palms marks the only oasis within three days' ride, guarded by a jealous genie.
- Raiders hide behind palm trunks to ambush travellers drawing water.
- A palm grove in a desert palace courtyard hides a door to the old catacombs.
