About this model
An octagonal hanging lantern in dark wood with translucent paper or silk panels, carved corner brackets and red tassels. It is about 3 ft across and 2.5 ft tall.
It belongs in eastern-inspired palaces, tea houses, temples and night markets. With a warm light inside, it glows and casts patterned shadows on the floor. It is a scene setter rather than terrain, but a lantern festival, a fire started by a falling lantern or a signal lamp are all good uses for it. Several hung in a row down a corridor or street make a strong night scene, with pools of warm light between darker gaps.
Ideas for the table
- During a lantern festival, assassins use the crowd and the glowing lanterns to close in on the governor.
- The tea house's main lantern falls in a struggle and sets the paper walls ablaze.
- A ghost appears only when the lantern in the temple's hall is lit with blue flame.
