About this model
A low cottage with a heavy, rounded thatched roof that reaches almost to the ground, the straw a warm golden brown. It covers about 19.5 ft by 25 ft, four squares by five, and stands about 9.5 ft tall. The roof is the most striking part, a thick mass of straw that looks freshly laid at one end and older at the other.
Use it for farms, hamlets, halfling villages and remote hermits' homes. It instantly says rural and humble. Its low roof is easy to climb, and its thatch burns quickly, which makes it vulnerable in a raid. Its thick walls give good cover to anyone inside.
Ideas for the table
- Raiders set fire to a thatched cottage, and the party must rescue a family trapped inside.
- A halfling hermit's thatched home hides a cellar full of stolen treasure.
- A witch in a thatched cottage offers the party a bargain that seems too good to be true.
