Wood Stairs, a stairs, pillars and structure 3D model for D&D battle maps

About this model

A flight of solid wooden steps in weathered grey brown planks, rising one storey. It is about 5 ft wide, 5 ft deep and 5 ft high, filling one square. The treads are broad and plain, the sort of stair found in an inn or a barn rather than a palace.

Use it to reach lofts, tavern upper floors, ship decks, stages and platforms. Stairs add height to a map, give archers a vantage and form a natural choke point. Wooden stairs also creak, burn and break, which makes them more interesting than stone in a tense scene. They also make a good platform edge for a stage at a fair or a gallows in a town square.

Ideas for the table

  • An innkeeper blocks the stairs to the upper rooms, insisting the party settle their tab first.
  • Bandits on a loft shoot down as the party rushes up the wooden stairs.
  • The stairs of a burning mill collapse halfway through the rescue.
