Dimension 20: Toylight, what to know before the 16 September 2026 premiere
Dimension 20: Toylight begins on Dropout on Wednesday 16 September 2026 at 7pm Eastern, with a new episode every Wednesday for six weeks. Brennan Lee Mulligan is the Game Master and the players are the Intrepid Heroes: Emily Axford, Ally Beardsley, Brian Murphy, Zac Oyama, Siobhan Thompson and Lou Wilson. The premise is a band of toys fighting to protect the Toylight, which Dropout's announcement calls the last flicker of a dying child's imagination. It is the second Intrepid Heroes season in a row, which the show has not done before.

The announcement, and what the trailer showed
Dropout announced the season on 12 August 2026 with a trailer, stills and a press release, and the trade coverage that day, from Bleeding Cool among others, carried the same core facts: six episodes, Wednesdays, the full Intrepid Heroes cast, Mulligan in the chair. The tone was pitched as darker and more emotional than the usual Intrepid Heroes comedy, which is a notable choice for a cast whose last two full seasons were a post-apocalyptic road trip and a municipal politics satire.
According to CableTV's write-up of the trailer, the season is played with the 2024 Dungeons and Dragons rules, the set is a castle built from toy building blocks, and the characters are wooden toys, dolls and stuffed animals. That report names the characters as well: Brian Murphy as Ol' Clyde Horsey, Emily Axford as Tiddleywinks, Lou Wilson as Wyon, Zac Oyama as Avery Augustusus Archibald Tinsley, Siobhan Thompson as Constance and Ally Beardsley as Calypso. Treat the spellings as provisional until the first episode airs.
Where it sits in the Dimension 20 run
Toylight is the twenty-ninth season by the count on the show's episode list. It follows City Council of Darkness, the fourteen-episode Intrepid Heroes season that ran from 8 April to 8 July 2026, which itself followed Gladlands, a six-episode side quest that ran from 7 January to 11 February 2026. Two Intrepid Heroes seasons back to back is unusual; the show normally alternates its core cast with a side quest played by a different table.
Six episodes is the short format. Dimension 20's side quests and its shorter Intrepid Heroes runs use it, and it changes what the season can be: one arc, one villain, a finale by the end of October rather than a sprawl into the new year. The final episode is scheduled for 21 October 2026 if the weekly cadence holds.
How to watch, and what it costs
Full episodes are on Dropout, the subscription service that carries the show. The first episode is expected on the Dimension 20 YouTube channel a week after the premiere, on 23 September 2026, which is the pattern the show has used for recent seasons; check the channel rather than trusting the date if you are planning around it. Dropout's own FAQ page for the season, at the time of writing, listed only the premiere time and left most of its other answers blank.
If you have never watched Dimension 20, a six-episode season with the core cast is the easiest place to start. There is no continuity to catch up on, the players know each other's rhythms, and Mulligan's battle sets are the reason the show is worth watching on a screen rather than as a podcast.
Why a toy-scale game is a good idea at home
The premise is not just a gimmick for the set builders. Playing toys changes the scale of everything, and scale is one of the cheapest ways to make a familiar map new. A kitchen table becomes a plateau. A cat is a dragon. The stairs are a mountain range and a bath is an ocean. Groups that have run the same dungeon crawl for years find that a session where the party is 6 inches tall reawakens the part of the table that likes to describe things.
It works on a grid without any new rules. Decide that a 5-foot square is 5 inches for the purposes of the map, keep every movement speed and range as written, and describe the terrain at toy scale. A Medium creature is a doll, a Large creature is a teddy bear on a 2 by 2 base, and a Huge creature is the dog. In TerrainTale the grid is a fixed 5-foot square and a token's size can be set to its creature size, so the same tavern scene the party fought in last month works as a toy chest if you tell them it is one.
- Keep speeds and ranges in feet; only the description changes scale.
- Use creature size for the toys: a doll is Medium, a bear is Large, the dog is Huge.
- Height matters more than usual, since a table edge is a cliff.
What is unconfirmed
As of 15 September 2026 nothing has aired, so everything about the story is trailer and press release. Whether the dying child appears on screen, how dark the season actually goes, and whether the six episodes resolve the premise or leave it open are all questions for Wednesday. The character names above come from one outlet's reading of the trailer and may be corrected. The 2024 rules claim likewise comes from that outlet; the announcement itself only says Dungeons and Dragons.
What is confirmed is the date, the cast, the episode count and the platform. That is enough to plan a watch party, which is roughly what the announcement was for.
